The sea, in all its possible representations, was at the heart of the opening ceremony for the 2012 edition of the America’s Cup, celebrating the legendary sailing event.
The sea of Naples, is a special one in the Mediterranean culture and it had so far a leading role in the Ceremony. The sea was brought to the heart of the city thanks to performers with structural costumes that acted in an immersive video scenario that transformed Piazza del Plebiscito in a giant aquarium. Eduardo De Filippo, the Neapolitan Theatre Maestro, was honoured trough his piece “O Mare” interpreted by singer and actor Peppe Servillo. The protocol moments of the ceremony celebrated in a spectacular way Italian sport, while the musical finale was dedicated to famous italian song-writer Lucio Dalla, recently deceased, and great lover of the sea.
